DON'T HIDE YOUR LIGHT.
“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
― Brene Brown
I'm pretty sure I've used this quote before- and I'm not ashamed. I will never stop reminding you to let your light shine fiercely! There is so much darkness in this world and you have only one life to live. We all have light to us- not in the aura type of thinking (no judgement to those who believe in that!) - but actual light.
Photography is literally ALL ABOUT LIGHT. Objects with different hues reflect light of different wavelengths and frequencies. Basically, to create a photographic image, you capture various amounts of light reflected from the various parts of a scene. A picture gets it's brightness from the dark and light objects. Dark absorbs more part of the light and reflect less into the camera, while bright objects reflect more light. Did you catch that? Dark objects reflect LESS light into the camera.
Photography needs light and darkness- that part is true. No one wants to look at a photo that's completely black or all white, right? We need both to create a photograph, just like the world needs both to keep things in place- the ying to the yang sort of thing. Don't let the world focus on the darkness, because your light LITERALLY makes the world more beautiful.
